The wow factor grabs you as soon as you go through the entrance gates at Ortus House; they’re controlled by video/electronic keypad so that’s an impressive start, but just wait till you get inside. Go in through the porch to the capacious entrance hall and WOW! What a fantastic house! Wooden floors with underfloor heating on the ground floor, carpets upstairs, and wooden flooring again on the top floor; the interiors are an ultra-stylish mix of contemporary and eclectic older pieces, huge artworks and very well chosen colours. You'll love it!
To the left a grand staircase leads to the first floor – more later! Off to the right is the kitchen, a huge room that’s very well-equipped with two built-in ovens, a six ring hob inset in the central island, American style fridge/freezer with ice maker, 2 drinks fridges and 4 dishwashers, plus a steamer, microwave and coffee machine. This is a very sociable room, with fat, inviting sofas, a wood-burner and TV to one end, and a chunky dining table that seats 10 to the other end. Doors lead off to the indoor pool, the patio, a rear staircase, and to a utility room with an additional fridge/freezer. A small rear hall leads to a laundry room with a washer and dryer, and to a door to the front garden/car parking.
Straight ahead from the main hall is the lounge, with plush soft seating, a monster of a TV (great for movie nights and those important matches!), an open fire with safety glass doors, and French doors that open onto the patio. Next door is the dining room, with a long polished table that comfortaby seats 14, an open fire, and a big bay window with cushioned seats - a lovely spot to just sit and daydream.
Left of the hall is the gym, with an up-to-the-minute cross trainer, rowing machine and exercise bike - so if you like to keep up with your fitness regime it's all yours and when you need to cool down just open the doors and step out to the patio and garden. Right next to the gym there's a cloakroom.
The stairs rise to a wide galleried landing that goes right the way round the first floor; a sofa provides the perfect spot to sit quietly with a book or magazine. To the left is Bedroom 4, with a king size bed and an ample en suite shower room.
Bedroom 1 is the air conditioned master bedroom, very commodious with a dressing area that leads on to an en suite bathroom where there’s a big bath and a double walk-in shower. The bed is a superking modern four poster, there’s a soft seating area in front of the window, and for those who don’t travel light there’s heaps of wardrobe space.
Bedroom 2 has a king size Indonesian style carved wooden bed, and en suite shower room, which like the others is top-notch in terms of style and quality. Bedroom 3 has a contemporary fabric bed (king size) and again, an en suite shower room with a walk-in shower.
From a corner on the landing another staircase leads down to the kitchen and up to the second floor. This floor is perfect for the younger folk in your large group as the games room is also up here, so it’s a cool place for them to hang out; their own space. Straight ahead is Bedroom 5, to the left is the shower room, and off to the right is Bedroom 6, which has views over the rooftops to the forest. This room has two single beds with the option of an additional third bed at an extra charge. Bedroom 7 also has two single beds, and both rooms have the original cast iron Victorian fireplaces (non-working). Then there’s the games room, a well-sized room with a pool table, a racing car console and comfy seating. Like we said, a good place to hang out.
Back downstairs, the indoor pool is accessed via a security pad; it’s an infinity pool with a wave machine, which is great fun and you’ll love the ‘shark wall’ at the back of the room. There’s a bench to one end of the pool, within the water, so you can sit there happy as Larry with a (plastic) glass of champers, living it up! Big doors open onto the patio, and the other side of the pool hall is the changing room with a WC, and the steam room, tiled throughout and fitted with internal showers.
A large patio extends right the way along the back of the house, accessed via the lounge, the indoor pool, and the kitchen. The kitchen has a barrier gate so you can pull it across for safety if you have toddlers. There’ll be some serious relaxation and some great barbecues out on the patio – just what summer holidays are all about! There’s more than enough garden furniture, so take your pick, try them all for size! You’ll have steaks sizzling in no time on the grill in the outdoor kitchen, which for convenience, also has two fridges and a drinks cooler. With the hot tub and the amazing outdoor infinity pool (charged extra Nov - Mar), it’s fun, fun, fun – the kids will love whizzing down the slide into the water! If it gets too hot beneath the sun you can pull a huge cover over most of the patio, and if it comes in a little chilly in the evenings, no worries as there’s a heated canopy, patio heaters (gas is charged extra) and two chimeneas; bring a speaker out and plug it in, have some sounds – you’re on holiday!
Steps lead up from the patio to the lawn with a play area, a sunken trampoline and a quiet seating area. The garden is a peaceful spot, with plenty of mature shrubs and trees, and it’s such a quiet neighbourhood, there’ll be nothing to bother you at all. When the pool’s not in use you can pull across the cover, strong enough to walk on! A gate to the far end of the patio gives access to the log store and the front garden.
