It all gets so exciting when you reach your journey’s end and pull into the car park at Hesdin Hall; in you go, through the side door to a porch; take off your coats and hang them up, have a little stretch and step through to the kitchen – that’s when you seriously start to unwind and think ‘yep, we’re here’. What an amazing room! What you’ll notice is how all those lovely old bits in this Georgian farmhouse have been kept, how they’re still part of the fabric and how well they blend in with the contemporary renovations. This kitchen is one big sociable space that has everything you need for your large group holiday – room for slicing and dicing, plenty of oven space, heaps of storage and a chef’s table you can sit at for a good old natter, right in view of the gastronomic action.

Off the kitchen there’s a walk-in pantry, a door to the steep and quirky ‘back’ staircase used by the servants back in the day, and a useful utility room with a big ice machine, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Straight ahead of the kitchen is the dining area, a stunner of a light-filled space with glass walls and ceiling, and doors that open onto the terrace. What’s remarkable is how cool this room stays on scorching hot days – despite all that glass. Centre piece is a chunky dining table, on a wall of original Georgian bricks is a whopper of a TV.

The terrace is a wonderfully sunny spot totally geared up for alfresco dining; there’s an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue, pizza oven and firepit, plenty of outdoor furniture, and you can play ping pong out there whilst your steaks are sizzling. Steps lead up to a lawn and to the pool, hot tub and barrel sauna; the hot tub and heated pool are both ready for use whatever the time of year, whatever the time of day. Just imagine sitting back in the hot tub beneath a velvety night sky studded with stars! The garden is a traditional walled garden, with a gate at the top giving views of the open fields; in late summer the bows of the apple tree are heavy with fruit, so crumble and custard could well be on the menu for pudding!

Back inside, right of the kitchen is the drawing room, with a gorgeous tiled fireplace (not working), deep seating in the bay window, and opulently colourful sofas and chairs. This is an elegant room, a quiet space at the front of the house where a few of you might gather for Sunday afternoon tea, or for a chat in the evening. The ambience is gentle and relaxing, the theme of white walls throughout the house give a crisp, uncluttered feel, the thick old beams and ornate coving add a certain homeliness.

Off the kitchen a wide hallway leads to the big front door (not in use) and the main staircase. To the right is the cinema room/snug, with needless to say, a humongous screen and ample comfy seating. Across the hall is another quiet space, the Library, with a tiled fireplace (not working) and a window seat where you can sit and daydream. Doors lead back through to the kitchen and dining area; we can’t help thinking what a great house for hide and seek this is!

Up the main or ‘front’ stairs is a landing that takes you to Bedrooms 1-4. All bedrooms except Bedroom 4 at Hesdin Hall have zip and link beds so you can have them arranged as superkings or twins. They all have fabulous black and white en suite shower rooms, Bedroom 1 can accommodate an extra single bed, Bedroom 3 has room for 2 extra singles, and Bedroom 4 has chunky hand crafted bunk beds big enough and comfortable enough to sleep adults.

We just love that old-meets-new look here; it’s things like the contemporary chandeliers on all the landings and hallways that give the house its own very unique character; white walls and black woodwork throughout keep the background simple, whilst sumptuous furnishings bring colour and sophistication.

Back and front stairs take you up to the second floor, to Bedrooms 5-8. These all have en suite shower rooms and zip and link beds, and Bedroom 7 has the luxury of a free standing bath in the bedroom as well. Bedrooms 5, 7 & 8 all have room for an extra single bed. Note the thick oak panelling on the walls as you come up the back staircase to this floor, and the little leaded window.

At the top of the garden in a separate building there’s a games room with a pool table. At the front of Hesdin Hall there's a private field where the kids can get together and play safely, or where you can go for picnics or a game of rounders. Hesdin Hall, you see - it's a very special place to come and stay, to come and make memories. Book today!
