The wow factor hits you the moment you step inside Henfield Barn; you'll notice straightaway how spacious it is, how light and airy, and how the original character has been retained, how well it works with the tasteful modern furniture and quirky accessories. And it's very well-equipped, with all the modern conveniences you'd expect from a high end holiday home; everything you could possibly need for your large group stay. There's stripped oak flooring throughout, a big kitchen/dining space, and two lovely sitting rooms; comfy sofas to sink into, wide screen TVs, and traditional style woodburning stoves to keep you warm and toasty on those colder days and nights.
The main living room has a sumptuous velvety corner sofa, with opulent throws and plush cushions, so you can dim the lights and snuggle up, with bowls of crisps and popcorn, for a night of movies. Gather together, each of you with your hands clasped around a warming mug of hot chocolate after a wintery walk in the fields. In the summer, step out through the French doors into the pretty gardens, frothy with flowers. That's the thing with Henfield Barn, it's a delight anytime of year.
The second living room has a very restful ambience; exposed beams and stone walls, inviting leather sofas. Watch a film or your favourite documentary, light the wood-burner and curl up with a good book and your favourite tipple. The good thing about these thick stone walls is that they hold the heat in when it's cold outside but keep it lovely and cool when the big old sun's blazing down.
The games room has heaps of light with floor to ceiling windows either side. This is one of the places where the teenagers tend to hang out, but you should all get out there and chill out with a game of pool whilst dinner's cooking, muster up some in-house competition; you might be surprised who comes out tops.
6 bedrooms sleep 15 people; each room has been individually styled, and you'll notice some all have TVs and gorgeous en suite bathrooms. It just helps, doesn't it, having a lovely room to sleep in? You go to bed feeling so cosy.
Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor and it makes a wonderful snooze space for a family or for 4 older children as the beds can be arranged as a superking and two singles, or as 4 singles. Bedroom 2 has a strappy superking bed and in the en suite bathroom is a wonderful roll top bath; Bedroom 3 is another double room with the luxury of a free standing bath in the room as well as an ensuite shower room. Bedroom 4 has a double bed and a single, and an ensuite shower room, and Bedroom 5 can have either a kingsize or twin beds, and again, it has an en suite shower room. Likewise Bedroom 6, another double room.
The bedrooms have a touch of Alpine Lodge ambience with the oak flooring, and especially when you look up at the wooden clad ceilings and rafters; crisp white bedding and full length windows add to this and give views of the surrounding countryside.
It's the little unique touches that make Henfield Barn feel like a home from home; period style radiators, interesting prints on the walls, shabby-chic mirrors, kooky chandeliers and soft lamplight; it all helps you to feel at home throughout your stay, and it must be why several guests tell us they didn't want to leave.
The kitchen-diner is a dream for anyone who loves cooking; fully equipped with all the latest gadgets, everything close at hand, and if you don't fancy using the big 6 oven Aga, well, it's not a problem because there's an electric oven and hob as well. The size of this kitchen and the layout makes it easy for hired caterers to come in and create a lavish dinner for you, perhaps if you're celebrating a big birthday - or just celebrating being together, that's reason enough.
We love those shaker-style units, that deep Belfast sink, and the big oak dining table; it all goes together so well. Oak beams add to the charm but modern kitchen appliances keep this space bang up-to-date – from the American-style fridge-freezer to the latest gadgets.
Of course, you can always have chill out in the Scandinavian style lodge, no matter what time of year it is. These lodges are such great spaces, they often get commandeered as a 'camp' by teenagers, as a playhouse by the younger children, or as a quiet area where the Mums like to have a natter, but what they're made for is getting you all out there together, toasting marshmallows on the firepit, telling jokes and swapping stories into the night, reindeer hides to keep you warm, fairy lights twinkling above you.
Idle the hours away in the delightful landscaped grounds, enjoy an impromptu barbecue or afternoon tea on the terrace; the fabulous indoor pool and jacuzzi are yours to use 24/7; a late night dip or an early morning swim, whatever you fancy. Feel invigorated after a session in the steam room or sauna, keep up yout fitness regime in the gym.
