Fuzzy Orchard welcomes one well behaved dog so that’s good news if you were worried you’d have to leave your furry friend at home! Bring him along and we bet you won’t see that little tail stop wagging because not only is he with all his favourite humans, but also, he’s going to have a whale of a time, playing in the garden and having days out with you all – and some amazing walks.
Step out from the door and you’ll soon find a footpath that will take you deep into the Somerset countryside, and you can go as far as you like, up and down the hills, round the lanes, through the fields. You can explore the Blackdown Hills with a walk up to Culm Beacon where the views are spectacular; stroll along the river and then go for lunch at the Culm Valley Inn, or head over to Staple Hill for a wander round the paths and wind up at the Greyhound just down the road at Staple Fitzpaine. Take in the tranquillity of Otterhead Lakes and go to the Holman Clavel afterwards; there’s no shortage of dog friendly pubs round these parts!
The Quantock Hills aren’t far and you can easily spend the whole day walking there. Some of the vantage points are well worth the climb – Wills Neck and Cothelstone Hill. You can walk up through the picturesque combes to the bracken topped heaths for views that reach across to Wales on a clear day; Holford Combe is lovely, and when you get back down to the village you can go to the Plough Inn.
The Somerset coast is good too, with plenty of dog friendly beaches, like Kilve, Watchet, Bossington Beach and Blue Anchor Bay. If you fancy a day out with your pooch, go to Exmoor; step out across the moors, or amble along the river at Watersmeet or Tarr Steps. Or head over to the Jurassic coast and walk along the shore at Charmouth, Lyme Regis or Axmouth. Doggy delights all round!
