Foxhill Lodge is set deep in the Devon hills, tucked away behind the owner's house on a working farm; step into the spacious hallway and you'll feel any worries slip gently away; this is such a welcoming place to be, all light and airy, with a soft and homely ambience. Right down the end of the hall is Bedroom 1, with an en suite shower room, fitted wardrobe, flatscreen TV and a luxurious carpet to wiggle your toes in. You can have the bed arranged as a superking or as two singles, just let us know after you've made your booking and we'll make sure it's done. Right next door is Bedroom 5, also with zip and link beds.
To the right of the hall is the big open-plan kitchen/dining room; white units and furnishings combined with well chosen accessories give a lovely modern country look, and it feels so warm and inviting. You can just imagine you all sat round the long dining table tucking into a breakfast of bacon and eggs, or a hearty Sunday roast; when you've had your fill sit on the sofa and let your dinner go down. It's such a great space this room, somewhere you can all enjoy happy sociable meal times - brilliant if you're here to raise a glass to a significant birthday or anniversary.
The kitchen is superbly kitted out, it'll serve you well - there are 4 built in ovens, an extra large 6 ring ceramic hob, American style fridge freezer, dishwasher, 2 wine coolers, and a microwave. And don't forget, there's always the option to book one of our recommended caterers to come and cook you up a feast - see our Extras page for more. Just off the kitchen there's a very useful utility area with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a loo; a stable door opens onto the courtyard, so it's just the ticket for when you've been for an invigorating walk across the fields and you come back with muddy boots and wet coats.
The contemporary glass and oak staircase was specially designed and made for Foxhill Lodge; it takes you up from the hall to the living room - but you won't be able to resist pausing on the landing half way up where floor to ceiling windows give a breathtaking vista of glorious Devon countryside that rolls on and on until it meets the sky.
And that's exactly why the living room is upstairs - to take full advantage of those far reaching views. This is such a lovely room, soft and welcoming with sumptuous sofas and a whopper of a TV; dim the lights, get a bowl of popcorn and choose a good movie, then settle down for a cosy night's viewing. In the summer, have the French doors open, let the sunshine fall into the room, step out on to the glass fronted veranda whenever you fancy, wander down to the garden or to the pool.
To the left of the living room is Bedroom 2, with zip and link beds (superking or twin), built-in wardrobes and an en suite shower room. Get up in the morning, have a good stretch, then pull back the curtains and admire the view from the Juliette balcony. What a great start to the day!
To the right of the living room a small hallway leads to Bedrooms 3 and 4; both have zip and link beds, TVs and use of a family bathroom that's plush and modern, fully tiled with lots of storage and a bath with an overhead power shower.
Bedroom 3 has French doors that open onto the veranda that runs more or less the length of the house and gives access down to the garden, so lucky you, if you pick this room because just think, you can slip down for a moonlit dip or an early morning swim easily.
Bedroom 4 has an outlook over the courtyard, which is where the year round hot tub and outdoor table tennis are. What's really noticeable at Foxhill Lodge is that the bedrooms all feel so incredibly restful so you ought to sleep well here, especially with all that fresh country air.
The pool is an amazing spot, out on the terrace with a backdrop of the Devon hills; it's staggeringly beautiful and lazy days spent out here when you're on your group holidays in the UK are days well spent. Imagine those baking hot summer days relaxing on the loungers sipping an ice cold drink, splashing about with the kids, soaking up the rays. You know the kind of days we mean, where a lunchtime barbecue stretches into the afternoon, days when you're busy doing absolutely nothing; we all need days like that now and then, it's good for the soul. The pool is available for use from Easter until November and is shared with the owners of Foxhill Lodge, though to be honest, they don't use it much, and anyhow, you can choose to have it all to yourselves for a small extra charge. You can also request to have it heated for use in November, which is brilliant if we're having a warmer autumn.
If the sunshine gets a bit too hot for you, you can retreat to the shade of the pool side breeze hut to cool down a little; take your drink with you, read your book, have a natter or a game of cards, play I-spy with the little ones.
Foxhill Lodge is great for people of all ages but it's totally geared up for family holidays as there's plenty here to keep the kids amused. There's the pool of course and the outdoor table tennis, but as well as that they can have heaps of fun in the play area where there's a trampoline and a play fort with a climbing wall, swings and a slide. No doubt they'll love the BBQ lodge too, which is somewhere you can all get together to toast marshmallows or sizzle sausages. You'll probably stay out there for hours, swapping stories, telling jokes, maybe even having a sing song. Whatever you do, you'll be making very special memories to take home with you.
