A long private drive takes you to Croftview, through arable parkland and glorious open countryside, all part of the 1,200 acre Hinton Park Estate just a stone’s throw from the idyllic village of Hinton St George in Somerset.

Go in through the gates and park up in the paved courtyard; this is where your holiday begins. You’ll feel any tension slip away as soon as you step in to the light and airy hallway at Croftview and you'll notice the feeling of calm that pervades the house. It really doesn’t matter what time of year you come because this place is a joy in all seasons; in the warmer months you can pull back the huge bifold doors and it feels like indoors and outdoors blend into one. In the winter you’ll be snug as bugs with a wood-burner and heating throughout the house. It's just so relaxing and welcoming, you won't want to leave!

Straight ahead is a seriously stylish downstairs loo and one of two contemporary staircases leading to the first floor. Off to the left of the hall is the games room where there's a pool table and air hockey, as well as a big TV and beanbags to relax on. Hang out there together, have an in-house games tournament; whoever loses cooks breakfast. In the summer, fling open the doors and bring the sunshine in.

Off the games room a short hallway leads to the spa hall, and wow, what an amazing space! Light floods in through floor to ceiling windows (you can see out but no one can see in), and chunky oak timbers soar to the roof. The pool is the centrepiece of course but there's also a sunken hot tub and a sauna right at the end of the hall, as well as changing rooms, a shower and WC. If you've got younger children with you it's reassuring to know that the doors to the spa hall have a safety lock.

To the right of the hall is the commodious L shape open-plan living space, heaving with wow factor. There's a long handcrafted dining table in front of bifold doors that open onto the garden, perfect for big happy feasts anytime of year. With a mix of bench seats and chairs and well placed lighting, this sets the scene for happy celebration feasts - for birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, hen weekends... and if you don't fancy doing the catering just book one of the professional caterers listed on our Extras page; they'll fix you up with a fantastic dinner, or cocktails and canapes - whatever you like.

Then there's the kitchen, super stylish and very well equipped with plenty of storage space, not to mention all the room you need for slicing and dicing. Round the corner is the lounge area, with a whopper of a sofa so you can all sit comfy for a movie nights or to cheer on your favourite team in that not-to-be-missed big match. There’s a wall hung wood-burner you can light when you come in from the cold, after a walk in the woods in the autumn or winter, just for a cosy glow or a bit of added warmth. Ah, it's wonderful, isn't it? That's the thing, Croftview is such a mellow place, and it's so private, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy yourselves.

If you carry on through the lounge you'll come to another hallway with the second staircase; then there's a utility room with a very useful extra fridge and laundry facilities. Beyond this is Bedroom 1 (Robin), which is access friendly with zip and link beds (superking or twin) and a generously sized en suite wet room.

At the top of the first staircase a long landing runs round the house; to the right are Bedrooms 8 (Squirrel) and 9 (Pheasant), both with en suite shower rooms, to the left is Bedroom 7 (Kingfisher) which has a bath with an overhead shower, and Bedroom 6 (Hare) which has an en suite shower room. Carry on along the landing to Bedrooms 2-5, all with en suite shower rooms. What’s fab about Croftview is that with the exception of Bedroom 10 (Barn Owl), all the bedrooms have zip and link beds so you get to choose how you want them – superkings or twins; do this after you’ve made your booking and we’ll do the rest – simple! Note that Bedroom 6 (Hare) can accommodate another single bed at an extra charge.

Follow the second staircase to Bedrooms 10 (Barn Owl) and 11 (Fox) on the top floor, you'll notice that the views over the Somerset countryside just keep getting better and better! Both these rooms have en suite bathrooms with a free-standing bath and a walk-in shower. Bedroom 10 has a superking bed and can sleep 2 more people on a comfortable Hypnos double sofa bed, and Bedroom 11 has room for 1 more person in a single bed.

Take the first staircase to the top floor to Bedrooms 12 (Blue Tit) and 13 (Stag), which both have en suite bathrooms with a free-standing bath and a walk-in shower. Bedroom 12 can sleep 3 more people on a double sofa bed and a single bed; it's important to remember that whilst there's a choice of extra beds, you can only use 4 of them - but it gives you several options and works well for families. A really thoughtful part of the design of Croftview is that at the top of both stairs on this floor there’s a small kitchen with a fridge and dishwasher – so you can pop out and make a cup of tea, get back in bed and take in those wonderful views. What a start to the day!

At the back of the house there’s a large terrace with plenty of room for alfresco dining and a mix of glass and gorgeously curved golden Hamstone walls. The young ‘uns have plenty of space to run about on the lawns and they can play outdoor table tennis or clamber about in the play fort. Follow the path and you'll find quite a surprise down the steps; push the door open and step into Charlotte's Web - an amazing rustic BBQ hut that's built into the hillside. It's so unique, there can't be another one anywhere in the world, it's just such a cool place to hang out. Beneath the fairy lights there's seating for up to 30 people, right in the middle there's a big firepit, and a huge window gives you wonderful views of hills and woods and big open fields. What’s good is that the outdoor space is all secure and gated so you can get out there and really enjoy the fresh air and all that glorious scenery wihtout having to worry about children or dogs escaping.
