A long private drive takes you to Croftview, through arable parkland and glorious open countryside, all part of the 1,200 acre Hinton Park Estate just a stone’s throw from the idyllic village of Hinton St George in Somerset.
Go in through the gates and park up in the courtyard; here’s where your holiday begins and you’ll feel any tension slip away as soon as you step in to the light and airy hallway at Croftview. It really doesn’t matter what time of year you come because this place is a joy in all seasons; in the warmer months you can throw open the French doors and let the sunshine in, and in the winter you’ll be snug as bugs with a wood-burner and heating throughout the house. The feel is relaxed and welcoming, the style contemporary.
Stairs rise to the first floor, straight ahead is a downstairs loo. Off to the left of the hall is the games room with a pool table, table football and table tennis, as well as a big projector and big fat sofas so you can cosy up and watch a movie. Hang out there together, have an in-house games tournament or ping-pongathon; whoever loses cooks breakfast.
Off the games room is a short corridor to the pool hall, an amazing space where light floods in through floor to ceiling windows, and chunky oak timbers soar to the roof. Besides the pool there’s a sunken hot tub, a sauna, changing room, WC and shower.
To the right of the hall is a huge L shape open-plan living space with a big bespoke dining table in front of French doors that open onto the garden. The kitchen is very well equipped and has all you need for holiday dining and for celebration feasts if you’re here to raise a glass to a big birthday or milestone anniversary.
Round the corner is the lounge area, plenty of comfy sofas to sink into, somewhere to put your feet up and unwind. There’s a wood-burner you can light when you come in from the cold, after a walk in the woods in the autumn or winter, and that’s just the thing with Croftview, it’s such a mellow place, and so private, which makes it that much easier to relax and enjoy yourselves.
Continue through the lounge to another hallway with the second staircase, and on to a utility room where there’s an extra fridge and laundry facilities. Beyond this is Bedroom 1, which is access friendly and has an ample en suite wet room, plus there's room for an additional single bed (charged extra).
On the first floor a long landing takes you left to Bedrooms 2-6, all with en suite shower rooms, and to Bedroom 7 which has a free-standing bath with an overhead shower. To the right are Bedrooms 8 and 9, again with en suite shower rooms. What’s fab about Croftview is that all the bedrooms have zip and link beds so you get to choose how you want them – superkings or twins; do this after you’ve made your booking and we’ll do the rest – simple! Note that Bedroom 6 can accommodate another single bed at an extra charge.
Follow the second staircase to Bedrooms 10 and 11 on the top floor, and wow, those views just keep getting better and better! Both these rooms have en suite bathrooms with a free-standing bath and a walk-in shower. There's an option for an extra single bed in Bedroom 10, at an additional charge.
The first staircase continues to the top floor, to Bedroom 12 which has room for an optional extra bed (additional charge) and an en suite shower room, and to Bedroom 13 which has its own bathroom with a free-standing bath and an overhead shower. A really thoughtful part of the design of Croftview is that at the top of both stairs on this floor there’s a little kitchen – so you can pop out and make a cup of tea, get back in bed and take in those wonderful views. What a start to the day!
At the back of the house there’s a large patio with plenty of room for alfresco dining; The young ‘uns have plenty of space to run about on the lawns and they’ll love the play area. What’s good is that it’s all secure and gated so you can get out there and really enjoy the fresh air and all that glorious scenery.
