Go to Wild Place near Bristol for an amazing family day out with outdoor adventure play and animals to see from all around the world. The 50 acre site is just of J17 of the M5 and covers woodlands, gardens and meadows. Conservation is a big theme here and so understandably, they try to keep things as natural as possible; think of it as a journey around the globe, imagining the animals are in their native habitats. Benoue National Park transports you to the grasslands of Africa where zebra and eland graze; there are cheetahs too, and with specially built viewing platforms you can get a bird’s eye view of the giraffes.
In the Walled Garden you can watch the meerkats and dik-diks, in Gelada Rocks there are bellowing baboons, and in Bear Wood it gets really exciting with wolves, lynx, wolverines, and of course, bears. See the Red River Hogs snuffling about, explore the interactive Madagascan Village where there’s a lemur walkthrough and you can look out for pygmy goats.
There’s outdoor climbing adventures to be had and If you’re brave enough you can take the Leap of Faith or have a go on the Giant Swing. Little ones will love the play areas dotted about throughout the site, including a very tactile Barefoot Trail. Wild Place is so much fun, so make a day of it – take a picnic or allow time for lunch at the Courtyard Café or Base Camp Pizzeria
