Tea and Tittle Tattle, Budleigh Salterton, Devon

If you’re all in favour of bringing back the Great British tea you’re going to like Tea and Tittle Tattle, in fact, you’re probably going to like it a lot. They serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea at this lovely little café in Budleigh Salterton on the Devon coast, and something they really love doing, an absolute peach of a  Vintage High Tea.

For lunch you can have a sandwich or a salad, or something from the daily specials board like Steak & kidney pie, Roast pork with crackling & apple sauce, Salmon & dill fishcakes or Fresh Budleigh crab salad & new potatoes. The good news is it’s all hearty homemade stuff, just like your Mum would give you; the pace is unhurried, the service the homely looky-after type, and the ambience is relaxed and cosy.

What we think you should do is get your glad rags on and pop along to Tea and Tittle Tattle for one of those Vintage High Teas. It’s the Real McCoy, served on the prettiest old fashioned china plates, with flowery cups and saucers, little milk jugs and all. There will be dainty finger sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and cream, a selection of little cakes and meringues, and a pot of proper tea, loose leaf not bags! If you’re feeling high spirited or if you’re celebrating something, have Prosecco, add a little fizz to your afternoon tea. Walk it off with a stroll along the shore.
