River Cottage HQ, nr Axminster, Devon
You’ll certainly get a warm at River Cottage HQ in Devon, and good food of course, but you must pre-book because it’s not like a restaurant that you can just walk into; it’s more of an experience, one that’s worth trying.
Most popular are the Friday & Saturday Night Feasts; you’re collected by tractor at the top of the hill and taken down the track to the 65 acre farm; if it’s a light evening, take a good look because the scenery in these parts is absolutely stunning, and at River Cottage it’s virtually idyllic. First you have a little drink by the wood burner in the yurt, or you can wander round the kitchen garden; then you take your seat in the restored 16th century threshing barn for an introductory talk from the chef, followed by a four course supper.
You can book a more cosy dinner in the Farmhouse for 18 people, and other events throughout the year include Summer Lunch, Sunday Lunch, Garden Lunches and Summer Nights, as well as various foraging and cookery classes.
A lovely thing to do whilst you’re down in the West Country on your large group stay, seriously.
