Orchard View - Accommodation
Go slowly up the drive when you arrive at Orchard View; pull up and park in front of this converted Dutch Barn, with its domed roof and cedar cladding from Longleat Forest. You’ll start to relax the minute you step into the wide hallway, all light and airy with oak flooring and stairs rising to the side. To the right is the spacious kitchen/dining room where a very modish kitchen is well equipped for creating a scrumptious feast; glittery granite worktops, an electric range with a double oven and 5 ring induction hob, a huge American style fridge-freezer, and of course, a dishwasher, In the dining area there’s a long chunky table and matching chairs to seat your whole party; no doubt the scene of some very happy celebrations. The kitchen is perfectly well equipped for creating a scrumptious birthday feast, whether you want to do the cooking yourselves or hire one of our tried and tested private caterers to come and do it for you (see Extras). There’s a wood-burner for extra warmth in the winter, if you feel you need a little more than the underfloor heating; just leave it ticking over nicely and love that warm, cosy glow. To the side of the room a picture window frames the view of the field across the track and the open countryside beyond.
Off to the left of the hall is Bedroom 5, fully accessible, with a door through to a shared wet room. Further along is the utility room leading through to Bedroom 6. The utility room has laundry facilities, a fridge and table football, and a door to the garden. These interconnecting rooms work well for a family with shared use of the wet room; parents can sleep in one room and children in the other. Most of the bedrooms at Orchard View (1, 3, 4 and 5) have zip and link beds that can be arranged as super kings or twins; Bedrooms 2 and 6 have a double bed.
Straight ahead from the hall is the living room; calm and capacious with big plump sofas for you to sprawl on when you're watching a movie or the latest big match on the widescreen TV. Big windows and French doors let the daylight flood in; oak floors and a colourful rug add a homely touch; painted steel girders bring a contemporary twist, and if you fancy some extra warmth you can light the double sided wood-burning stove between this room and the dining room. Have a game of pool, open the doors wide on hot days and step out onto the patio to soak up the sunshine.
Upstairs is a spacious landing; follow it round to Bedroom 1 which has an ensuite shower room; besides the zip and link beds there's room for an additional single (charged extra). To the right of Bedroom 1 is the family bathroom, where there’s a contemporary free-standing bath and a corner shower. Along the landing are Bedrooms 2-4; big comfy beds make for a good nights' sleep, aided by restful neutral décor with just the right amount of colourful touches. The bedrooms all have glorious views out over the countryside, so what you should do is spend a little time in bed with a cup of tea each morning – it’s a great way to start the day.
At the back of the house the enclosed garden overlooks the orchard; it’s an absolute dream in the springtime when the apple trees are frothy with their pink and white blossom. Gather together on the patio, fire up the barbecue, relax in the hot tub whilst your sausages are sizzling, have a long lazy lunch alfresco beneath the sunshade. Ah, these are special days indeed, time to unwind and enjoy your holiday in Somerset; the orchard, the fields, that clean country air, the beautiful views. Plenty for the memory bank; book today!
