F.East, Ilminster, Somerset

One for vegetarians, in a revamped red brick industrial building on the site of a Victorian mill on the outskirts of Ilminster in Somerset; it’s all a bit pared back here, a bit raw round the edges, quite earthy and trendy, and there’s a very nice outlook across the fields.
Go up the stairs to F.East and at the top, it all opens out, becoming much lighter and brighter, with a distinct contemporary feel; factory chic with white painted stone walls, exposed pipework, bare filament bulbs, that kind of thing. To one side, where you order your food, there’s a big communal table; the other side is a room with individual mis-matched furniture, and a play area with a couple of sofas for tired mummies and not so tired litt’luns.
The food is top notch vegetarian, with vegan, dairy free and gluten free options; what you’ll notice is the flavours, loads of ‘em, all mingling in together to hit the right notes. If your tastebuds could talk, they’d be thanking you and asking “Hey that was nice, what was it?” It might have been Panfried Cauliflower, Broccoli, New Potatoes & Green Beans with a Dill & Caper Dressing on a bed of Leaves & Puy Lentils, topped with Panfried Halloumi, or it could have been Roast Butternut Squash, Wild Garlic, Leek & Cheddar Tart with New Potatoes and Salads.
And the cakes? Well, that’s something else entirely, but let’s just leave it at divine, exquisite, shall we?
