ACCESS STATEMENT - WHITEHAVEN

PUBLIC TRANSPORT 

A train and bus service is available from Bristol, Gloucester, Newport and Chepstow, to Lydney where you will need to arrange a taxi to Whitehaven (full address: St Swithins Road, Oldcroft, GL15 4NF - between Viney Hill and Yorkley).

Bristol Parkway Railway Station:   25.50 Miles - Taxi or change for Gloucester

Chepstow Railway Station:   12.30 Miles -  Bus service available to Lydney (3.8 miles)and Blakeney (1.5 miles)

Gloucester Railway Station:  17.00 Miles - Bus service available to Lydney (3.8 miles)and Blakeney (1.5 miles)

Lydney Railway Station:  4.10 Miles - Taxi (by arrangement)

Newport Railway Station  30.80 Miles - Taxi or change for Chepstow/Lydney

THE PROPERTY

Whitehaven is built of forest stone under a tiled roof, and has been substantially extended to provide luxury 6 bedroom self catering accommodation. There is 1 bedroom on the ground floor, with an en suite shower & W.C). Whitehaven boasts a heated swimming pool within a substantial timber built pool house, and a separate heated dining pavilion for year round use. The property is not suitable for those using wheelchairs as there are steps to negotiate when accessing the property.

LOCATION

The property is located approx 500m down St Swithins Road, which is the turning by Viney St Swithins Football & Social Club, between Viney Hill and Yorkley.

ON-SITE PARKING 

There is parking for 6 vehicles and the entrance to the car park can be found on the right, just beyond the house. Double gates protect the parking area from unauthorised access and should be kept shut except when accessing the car park. There is limited parking by the main gates for deliveries and for owner use.

ACCESS TO THE HOUSE

Whitehaven is from the paved parking area and footpath leading from the car park and main gate to the house. There are steps, or a downward slope leading to the two entrances. Both entrances have a step up to enter the property, requiring mobility or assistance (not suitable for wheelchair access).

LUGGAGE

The house is approx 20m from the car park and there is a flight of stairs to the first floor bedrooms.

ENTRANCE TO HOUSE

From the parking area to the house, there steps, or a downward slope to negotiate; however, both entrances are elevated by a 3-4 inch step leading into the Utility room and Kitchen/Diner. The entrance to the kitchen diner is approx 90 cm wide with an additional 40 cm locked section.

BEDROOM ACCOMMODATION

There is one bedroom on the ground floor; all other bedrooms are located on the first floor and can only be accessed via the 12 stairs to the first floor.

WET ENTRANCE, BOOT ROOM 

There is a rear entrance to the utility area, which has coat hanging space and an area for wet boots, a condenser drier and table football, and leads to:

UTILITY ROOM 

The Utility Room has a laundry area with a sink unit, washing machine and second dishwasher. This leads to the kitchen and the downstairs WC.

KITCHEN 

The Kitchen has an interlocking tile effect floor. The stove/cooker has a gas hob, two electric ovens and a grill. Other appliances include an upright fridge/freezer, a microwave, an inbuilt fridge & dishwasher, a toaster and cordless kettles.

KITCHEN/DINER

The Kitchen leads through to the adjoining dining area, with continued interlocking tile effect floor, light oak tables and leather covered chairs. This area connects to:

GAMES ROOM

There is oak flooring, a pool table, bookcase and access to the stairs, lounge areas, downstairs W/C and ground floor bedroom.

FRONT LOUNGE

This is accessed from the Games Room. There is also a tilt or slide opening window, which can be used as an exit in case of emergency. In addition there is a large 4 pane floor to ceiling fixed frame (non opening) window with views to the large garden area. Externally, there is a step of approx 3 – 4 inches the width of the large window. The room has oak flooring, with a woodburner, TV, bookcase and 2 sofas.

REAR LOUNGE 

This  is also accessed from the Games Room and gives access to the ground floor bedroom. This room has oak flooring, a TV and 2 sofas.

GROUND FLOOR BEDROOM 

The ground floor bedroom is accessed through the kitchen/diner and lounge areas, to the rear of the property. The bedroom and bed can be configured as a superking double or twin beds and there is an en suite w/c & shower room. However, access is limited and it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

STAIRS TO FIRST FLOOR 

There are 12 steps to the first floor landing, providing access to 5 bedrooms, including the master bedroom.

MASTER BEDROOM 

This room has fitted wardrobes, a superking double bed and an en suite shower room.

BEDROOMS 2 & 3 

These rooms have shared use of a bathroom with shower, accessed from both bedrooms. Both room shave zip and link beds which can be configured as doubles or twins 

BEDROOMS 4 & 5

Both of these bedrooms have zip and link beds and an en suite shower room.

BATHROOMS

Bedrooms 2&3  have shared en suite facilities, whilst all other bedrooms have their own en suite shower rooms.

MOBILE PHONES 

Reception in the Forest of Dean area is patchy. However, Vodaphone, O2 and T-Mobile are accessible outside and in various areas of the house.

PETS

Due to the large volume of visitors to the house and limited turn around times, we are only able to accept pets by prior arrangement. Any additional cleaning costs needed to ensure the welfare of other guests will be chargeable.

SERVICE DOGS

Service dogs can be accommodated, but only with prior agreement with the property owners. Access must be restricted to non carpeted ground floor areas only. Any additional cleaning costs needed to ensure the welfare of other guest’s will be chargeable.
