You'll feel at home the minute you step in through the front door of Berry House into the spacious high ceilinged hall. To the right is the elegant dining room, one of the grandest rooms in the house, with rich heritage red walls, original period features, a cosy woodburning stove and a lovely polished dining table for up to 16 people to dine in style; big sash windows give wonderful views of the Batherm Valley.
In true period layout, next to the dining room is a terrific walk in pantry, giving access to the large kitchen, with all you need to create a delicious feast; this is where traditional meets modern, with feature beams, a homely 4 oven Aga sited in an inglenook, electric hob and oven, 2 dishwashers and a microwave. Right next to the kitchen is a handy boot room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a further useful fridge.
To the left of the hall is a cosy snug room with original dado rails and a beautiful marble surround fireplace, along with stylish chairs and sofas, a music docking station and a big flatscreen TV with full Sky package, including sports and movies. The perfect place to curl up and watch a romantic movie or lose yourself in a good book.
Next to the snug is a spacious billiard room where you can unwind with a game of table football or pool. How about setting the challenge of an in-house pool championship?
The billiard room leads through to the light and airy drawing room, where you can lounge on the inviting, sumptuous sofas and admire the beautiful decorative ceiling or the stunning marble fireplace; a great space for a traditional afternoon tea!
Upstairs is typical of a charming, rambling country house, with the master bedroom occupying the west end.
The other double bedrooms are equally attractive and all but two have en suite bathrooms (these have use of a shared bathroom). The property actually has five bathrooms in total, three with baths, and all with roomy walk-in showers. All rooms are furnished in keeping with the classic style of the house, and each enjoys a lovely rural aspect.
A further two commodious bedrooms are located in the stunning timber clad pool house, both with French doors leading out onto an ample decking area overlooking a fenced pond and the beautiful valley. The heated swimming pool has plenty of space around it and at an even 4ft depth it's perfect for the whole family to enjoy; floor to ceiling windows allow natural daylight to flood in and give a delightful outlook of the verdant greenery outside.
Berry House boasts an enviable position, enjoying delightful views in 200 acres of organic pasture land, dotted with ancient copses, which the owners are adding to. In recent years they have planted 12,000 trees on 20 acres! The same family have been at Berry House for over 50 years, so the owners are very keen to retain the charm and ambience. As they still live nearby they are at hand should you need them during your stay.
The garden has been designed in delightful English country house style, with topiary box and yew hedges. An old wisteria and magnolia grow up the front of the house and are a sight to behold when in flower. Just imagine sitting outside on a warm day, with all that gorgeous countryside stretched out before you and the delicate fragrance of wisteria delighting your senses...
Nature lovers will appreciate the bountiful wildife; there are plenty of opportunities for birdwatching, and red deer come to graze within view from nearby Exmoor National Park. But that's not the only environmental bonus - Berry House has excellent green credentials, with a woodchip boiler providing the cosy central heating.
For outdoor fun and games, there's some chunky play equipment for the children, and a field in front of Berry House which is kept mown for rounders, cricket or football - an opportunity for some great family laughter and to make memories to treasure.
Once you have worked up your appetite and if you want to go out, you are spoiled for choice. The nearby Rock Inn has superb food, and the Lowtrow Cross and Bampton’s Swan Inn are also popular. Award-winning restaurant Woods in Dulverton is a 15-minute drive.
The seaside is 45 minutes away and Exmoor is on your doorstep with a multitude of attractions and unspoilt scenery. Wimbleball Lake offers sailing, other watersports and fishing.
