West Bay, Dorset

Also known as Bridport Harbour, West Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site; it’s rather nice to have a stroll around here, to find somewhere to sit and watch the world go by; mooch about the shops, and if you have time, go and check out the latest art exhibition at the Sladers Yard Gallery. The kids can go crabbing, or you can hire a rowing boat and you can all sunbathe or play games on the shingly beach, flanked by the pier and towering sandstone cliffs. Pretty much year round you’ll find little shacks selling takeaway food and ice cream; otherwise try the quirky Station Kitchen, the Watch House Café, just yards from the sea, or for seafood lovers, right on the water is the superb Riverside Restaurant.
