Tintern Abbey

You can’t help but marvel at the hallowed ruins of this once magnificent edifice; Tintern is a former Cistercian monastery which fell into ruins during the Dissolution of the Monasteries and it’s the best preserved abbey in the whole of Wales. There’s a car park and loos, and it’s accessible to those with limited mobility, so if you have time, make a point of stopping here. The abbey was the inspiration for a poem by Wordsworth and a painting by Turner, and it’s easy to see why. Take your time and stroll quietly around; you can almost hear the monks chanting.

Opening times vary throughout the year.
