The Rose & Crown, Bower Hinton, near Martock, Somerset
There's something very, very satisfying about finding a seat in a friendly village pub and settling down with a pint of local ale and a plate of home cooked food. The Rose & Crown has plenty of country inn ambience; a lovely Hamstone building, traditional pub furniture and settles; there's a big TV for sports, regular live music and guest beers. Food is honest and tasty home cooked fare; sausage and mash, steak and kidney pudding, ham, egg and chips. At lunchtime there's also a good choice of light bites, hot or cold filled baguettes, and jacket potatoes. It gets good reviews with people coming back because it's relaxing and welcoming and because it's unpretentious. Nearby is Tintinhull House, Montacute House (both NT), and Burrow Hill Cider & Brandy Farm.
