The Phelips Arms, Montacute, Somerset

It's all golden Hamstone and quite remarkable architecture as you drive through the village of Montacute; get inside the Phelips Arms and you'll find a huge Hamstone fireplace, stone walls and wooden floors that blend with the more modern furnishings to give a very relaxed vibe. There are various menus and specials that change daily, with baguettes, baked potatoes and burgers at lunchtime, as well as their own renowned steak and ale pie, and for the vegetarians, Brie, potato and almond crumble. It's quite a hub in the community, with regular themed nights, family fun days, charity quiz nights and open mic nights. Next door is Montacute House and just 15 minutes drive away is Haynes Motor Museum.
