Muchelney Abbey, Somerset

This former Benedictine abbey was demolished during Henry VIII’s reign but the foundations, and parts of the richly decorative cloister walk can still be seen, and the 16th century abbot’s house still remains, along with a thatched monk’s lavatory! To wander among these ruins is a tranquil and uplifting experience – adults can marvel at the beautiful architecture and decorative stone carvings, whilst the younger members of the family can find out how the monks lived and try on their robes.

Open 10.00am-6.00pm July and Aug, 10.00am-5.00pm Sept and Oct
