Mendip Hills, Somerset

The limestone Mendip Hills are a varied landscape of steeply sloping grasslands, wooded combes and windswept plateaus; of dramatic gorges and rocky outcrops with stunning views over the Somerset Levels, the Bristol Channel and the Chew Valley. Visit spectacular Cheddar Gorge or Wookey Hole for family fun, go nature spotting or exploring at peaceful Ebbor Gorge and then to the Queen Victoria Inn at Priddy for a bite to eat (dogs and muddy boots welcome!), or hire a bike and cycle along the Strawberry Line from Yatton to Cheddar (10 miles) and enjoy refreshments at the Gardener’s Arms or Lion Rock Tea Rooms, both in Cheddar.
