Devon is such a diverse county! With heaps to see and do it’s hard to beat for a family break in the UK, with something different for every day of your stay.
If you fancy a trip to the seaside, on the north coast Ilfracombe, Westward Ho!, Croyde and Woolacombe are popular with families and surfers alike. The south coast has some lovely sandy beaches at Regency Sidmouth, Exmouth, Dawlish and Salcombe, or head for the hustle and bustle of the English Riviera at Torquay, Paignton or Brixham.
If your family love the great outdoors you’re spoilt for choice! How about the wild heaths of Dartmoor, or the steep wooded valleys and stunning clifftop scenery of Exmoor? Explore the South Devon AONB, including the beautiful South Hams and the charming villages of Stoke Gabriel, Newton Ferrers and Dittisham. The East Devon AONB takes in part of the Jurassic Coast world heritage site, the quiet resort of Budleigh Salterton, and the pretty fishing villages of Axmouth, Beer and Branscombe.
Devon has some varied towns and cities for families to enjoy; you’ll find plenty to see and do in the county town of Exeter, or in bustling Plymouth, whilst Barnstaple, Dartmouth, Honiton, or Totnes are great places to while away a morning or an afternoon.
Animal lovers will adore Paignton Zoo, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, Buckfast Butterflies and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, or the Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth. If you’re looking for something more adventurous Devon has endless opportunites for sailing, kayaking , pony trekking and cycling, or head for Crealy Great Adventure Park, Go Ape at Haldon Forest Park, Becky Falls Woodland Park, or Watermouth Castle and Theme Park. For history buffs there are several old houses to visit - Castle Drogo, Powderham Castle or Saltram House and Gardens; whilst railway enthusiasts can catch a steam train on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway or the South Devon Railway, or for something different, have a pootle on the Seaton Tramway.
