Bridgwater Arts Centre, Bridgwater, Somerset

Bridgwater Arts Centre stands on the site of the old castle in Bridgwater, housed in an imposing Georgian building overlooking the square in Castle Street. This was the very first Arts Centre in Britain, opened in 1946. They offer a diverse programme of performance and visual art with regular live music, comedy, film and theatre events running alongside exhibitions and workshops. Classes and groups include a regular acoustic night, an art club, meditation, yoga and Knit n Knatter.

It’s a great venue, not too big and not too small so they can put a big focus on audience participation. On event nights the bar is open to the general public, so you can order a drink, get comfy in your seat and watch performances. Recent events include tribute acts, a medium, The Producers, Louis & the Iguanas, China Crisis and the Tashi Lhunpo Monks 50th Anniversary Tour.

If you fancy a night out when you’re on your large group holiday in Somerset, keep an eye on what’s on; plan it well to include dinner at Artichoke or Green Olive before or after a performance.
